It’s really interesting how pursuing your dreams has this way of showing you a lot about the people that you have surrounded yourself with…
And from what I’m seeing, the people around you can be placed into one of three categories…
First, you have the people who genuinely support what you are doing…
These are the people who are excited for you and are inspired by your hard work and diligence…
These are the people who encourage you when needed…
These are the people who are not intimidated when you share your victories with them because they understand that your wins won’t take away from anything that they are pursuing…
These are the people who you can share your fears and insecurities with because they won’t repeat what you say or throw it in your face to belittle you…
These are also the people who are proud of you and will brag about you to others and/ or on social media…
These are the solid people in your life who you can consider as your support system, and you should cherish these relationships…
Next, you have the people who support what you are doing until it exceeds the limits of their own accomplishments…
These are the people who appear to be supportive, but secretly are jealous…
These are the people who don’t offer encouragement when needed, and often try to bring attention away from you and turn it back to them…
These are the people who give backhanded compliments when you share your victories with them because they don’t understand that your wins won’t take away from anything they are pursuing…
These are the people you really shouldn’t share your fears and insecurities with because they most likely will repeat what you say and/ or throw it in your face to belittle you…
These are also the people who, though they may say that they are proud of you… are not; furthermore they do not brag about you to others… and they ignore your social media posts (though they see them)…
In my opinion, this is the worst group of people to have around you when you are pursuing your dreams because they are fake and at first it may be hard to tell that they are not really “for you” because they do just enough to seem like they are part of your support system… but their heart isn’t really in it and eventually you will see the lack of authenticity behind their actions because time reveals all things…
Last, but not least, you have the people who, though they don’t have ill feelings towards you, they could care less about what you are doing…
These are the people who don’t try to appear supportive…
These are the people who you realize are not the ones you should turn to when you need encouragement…
These are the people who will only learn about your victories on social media…
These are the people you wouldn’t share your fears and insecurities with…
These are also not the people who will tell you that they are proud of you… but they may like a social media post when you announce a major accomplishment…
In my opinion, this is the second best group of people to have around you when you are pursuing your dreams because they are authentic and don’t try to put on this front like they are someone that you can expect to be part of your support system…
It’s usually pretty easy to recognize who these people are in your life…
And I can honestly say that each of these groups of people serves a purpose because you actually learn a lot about yourself by your response to their behavior…
But as I said earlier… you learn a lot about the people around you when you are pursuing your dreams…
